What are the possible effects of a longer life expectancy on individuals and the society?

The 20th century has witnessed numerous changes ,among which one in terms of human being themselves is the life longevity .The overall significance of this change can be divided into the pros and cons on both human beings and society.

In comparison with the people who lived hundred years ago ,people nowadays can enjoy a longer life due to the improvement of medical service. And this is the lively proof that the whole well -being of human kind has been greatly boosted .Therefore , human race can take better advantage of their lives to either enjoy themselves ,or to devote themselves in their specific discipline. What accompanies this achievement is the resultant risks. Living long does pose some potential and real jeopardies, among which the most devastating one is the depleting of natural resources and damage to the mother land . In other world ,as there is a booming integrating the number of population , the life expectancy and economy ,the limited resources are on the fringe of being used up with an dilemma should human race continue to develop with a skyrocketing speed or in a sustainable way ?

Not only does the earth could not stand this exploitation ,but also individuals are exposed to severe competition with discouraging result that some employees experienced sudden death in their work ,which has not been a news for urbanites who fight for a life in cities. In other words, longer life equals the abundant number of candidates in the job market with labor ability and longer years of education to be competitive in this market. It is not surprising in some countries where labor force is surplus, in order to sharpen competitiveness in job hunting ,students would worship credentials by climbing academical ladders without considering their own interest and situation ,which would be a waste to both students themselves as well as social resources. A mature job market is the one where different levels of candidates could find their matching .Besides, a society where the proportion of the elders is beyond certain limit would be exposed with financial challenges .

How to manage this trend of elderly society has been a practical issue for some developed countries and one solution is by social medical insurance and other insurances .
